Aaron Brown is an IT administrator, cinematographer, and professional training presenter for the U.S. Department of Labor.
He is also a mentor, an award-winning professional speaker, and graduate of Job Corps. Aaron has been named the Federal Executives Board’s Employee of the Year three times for his work with the Department of Labor, and has been honored by the mayor of New York for his mentorship and volunteering.
After a difficult childhood in New York City, Aaron took the advice of his father and enrolled at Edison Job Corps Center. While there, he worked hard and stayed motivated. He received Advanced Training in business technology, and earned certifications in IC3 (Internet Core Competency Certification), Microsoft Office, A+, and more.
During his time at Job Corps, Aaron also served as an assistant to the center’s equal opportunity counselor, accompanying her on speaking engagements to prospective students. After being asked to fill in for her during one of these engagements, Aaron discovered he had a talent for public speaking.
After graduating, Aaron attended Middlesex County College, where he earned an associate degree in computer science. Shortly thereafter, he was hired as an IT administrator for JP Morgan. After a year, he was offered and accepted a similar position with the Department of Labor, where he is currently employed.
Today, Aaron not only uses the skills he learned Job Corps every day at his job, but has continued to build on his talent as a public speaker. He delivers training programs to his fellow employees, and operates an independent speaking business, training nonprofit organizations in communications with government officials. Aaron has even traveled to New Zealand, where he competed in and won an international speech competition.
“Going to Job Corps was one of the best decisions I ever made,” Aaron said. “Truly, every single thing I have today, I have because I went there. Even when I didn’t think I could succeed, the constant motivation and encouragement I received got me through the tough times and made me who I am today.”
