Amber Sanders moved to Dunbar, W.Va., after completing high school in Florida. She wasn’t ready for college, so she got a job as a cashier. She wanted hands-on training for a career, and Job Corps was the perfect fit. She enrolled at the Charleston Job Corps Center in January 2018.
While at Job Corps, Amber trained in Office Administration and received multiple certifications, including Key Applications, Living Online, Computing Fundamentals, and Microsoft Office Specialist.
After completing her training area, Amber realized she wanted more structure, so she enlisted in the U.S. Army and left for basic training in May 2018. After completing her service, she plans to go back to school to study early childhood education and become a foster parent.
“Stay focused on what you came to do,” Amber said. “Give it your all! If you fall down by failing a test, retake it, and get back up. I made it, and you can too.”
