Anthony Perry enrolled at the Cleveland Job Corps Center on July 10, 2017, as a nonresident student. While at Job Corps, he earned a number of certifications, including National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), Core Curriculum, Green Awareness, Lead Awareness, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour Course, Scaffold User Safety (OSHA 29), and United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) Pre-Apprentice Certificates.
When he wasn’t in class, Anthony constructed an outdoor recreational field and renovated the center’s music room. He also participated in community service projects, such as building “Little Free Libraries” to promote literacy. He also participated in the Carpenters Apprenticeship training competition.
“Being exposed to the different career opportunities within the Carpenters Union, as well as being exposed to the work environment and expectations daily, has prepared me for success in the construction field,” Anthony said.
After graduating from the Cleveland Job Corps Center in June, Anthony obtained employment as a laborer apprentice at Precision Environmental making $15.60 an hour. He plans to save up money to buy a car and gain more work experience so he can eventually join the Carpenters Union as an apprentice.
