Brittney Funderburg enrolled in the Philadelphia Job Corps Life Science Institute to earn her national certification as an emergency medical technician (EMT). After graduating from Job Corps with her EMT certification, she worked for two ambulance companies and was hired at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Pennsylvania.
Brittney has worked at the hospital for 3 yea
rs and spends her time outside of work at the Sharon Hill Fire Company as a volunteer firefighter. Brittney says being an EMT and volunteer firefighter is a big commitment, but the experience she is receiving will go a long way in her career.
“Being in this atmosphere, it’s just something about the camaraderie. I just really found myself drawn to it.”
Brittney deals with many different types of injuries and medical cases, which provides her with the opportunity to expand her education and become a more well-rounded EMT.
Job Corps provided Brittney with the necessary training to be successful in this high-demand field as an emergency medical technician.
“If I didn’t go to Job Corps, I would have never joined the EMT program.”
