Christian Rijo was always hardworking. Before graduating from high school, he trained in carpentry and maintenance. He realized he wanted to pursue a career in construction, so he enrolled at Iroquois Job Corps Center in New York in the Electrical program with Home Builders Institute.
Along with his training in Electrical, Christian earned credentials in customer service, green
awareness, OSHA 30 and Ramset Power Actuated Tool. He also participated in work-based learning through the Leisure Time Employment program in the Iroquois Job Corps campus maintenance department. This gave him the opportunity to save money to buy a car.
As he approached graduation, Christian decided to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test to determine if he was eligible for military placement. He scored very well, graduated from Job Corps and immediately accepted a job with the United States Army Reserve that fit perfectly with his training and background. Christian enlisted and will continue working in the electrical field through his military service.
