After her honorable discharge from the U.S. military, Courtney Turner was looking to take the next step in her career. That’s when she found the Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center in Kentucky.
Courtney got right to work training in the heavy equipment operator training area at Earle C. Clements. While on center, she was able to make lifelong friends while completing her training and was also a star on the basketball team on center.
As she advanced through her training, Courtney’s skill led her to the IUOE NTF’s Advanced Asphalt Paving Program at the Turner Job Corps Center in Georgia. During her time there, she was even able to travel to Job Corps centers across the country and use her training to improve centers by working on various paving projects.
After graduating from Turner Job Corps, Courtney went to Orlando for the IUOE Local 673 apprenticeship program and became a member of the IUOE, putting her Job Corps skills to use. After 10 years of working in the private sector and becoming a successful heavy equipment mechanic, she received a call from one of her IUOE NTF Job Corps instructors, who told her that there was a position available for her to come back and teach her training at the center.
Fast-forward 11 years, and Courtney Turner is changing lives every day at Job Corps. She tells incoming Job Corps students, “Job Corps is what you make of it. So, remember what your goals are.”
