Wanting to get his life on track, Damarcus Bowman decided to enroll at the Cleveland Job Corps Center on July 10, 2017. He obtained his high school diploma and trained in Building Construction Technology.
“The Cleveland Job Corps Center helped me to become something that even I was surprised of,” Damarcus stated. “It helped me grow and prepared me for a career. Mr. Marquis, my mentor, sat down with me daily to discuss life lessons that helped my personal growth and development.”
While at Job Corps, Damarcus achieved a number of certifications, including National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Curriculum, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA 10), Forklift Operator, Powder Actuated Tools (RAMSET), and Home Builders Institute (HBI) Pre-Apprentice Credentials.
Outside of his classes, Damarcus constructed outdoor recreational fields and participated in community service projects, including fixing up the houses of elderly and disabled Cleveland residents with Rebuilding Together Northeast Ohio.
Damarcus is now a powder/paint systems loader/unloader at Lincoln Electric, earning $14 an hour. He is saving money to buy a car and get a place of his own.
