Evelyn Skinner attended the Woodstock Job Corps Center, where she earned multiple credentials including Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Electronic Health Records, HIPAA, CPR, and First Aid. Evelyn also served as the president of the center’s Student Government Association.
Evelyn wanted to continue her education, so she attended Blue Ridge Job Corps Center’s Advanced Training program to help advance her education in licensed practical nursing.
“I remember gazing around the classroom and realizing I was surrounded by women who all wanted a better life just as much as I did,” Evelyn said.
While enrolled at Blue Ridge Job Corps, Evelyn took full advantage of the work-study program, working at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Va., to gain experience and learn additional skills.
After graduating from Blue Ridge Job Corps Center, Evelyn accepted a job at Brookdale Senior Living as a licensed practical nurse. She also began taking classes at Hagerstown Community College in January 2018. She plans to complete the school’s registered nurse program and continue her career at a hospice care facility.
