After serving our country in the United States Army for four years, Hope Chenault decided to attend Little Rock Job Corps in Arkansas because Hope wanted to expand their work experience and try something new.
“I decided to enroll in the program because I saw how beneficial it was for my brother, and I love to try new things.”
Hope trained in Facilities Maintenance because their passion is working with their hands, specifically carpentry and construction.
“I love being able to see everything come together as a visible representation of the work I put in.”
Hope completed several credentials, including authorized operator powder actuated tools, OSHA 10 and Roto-Rooter light plumbing technician. They were also active on campus and participated in Student Government Association (SGA) as a Facilities Maintenance representative.
Hope is currently an active-duty member of the United States Army. Hope returned in December from deployment in Kuwait working as a heavy equipment operator. Hope says the Skylift course they completed at Job Corps directly correlated with their physical duties in the Army. Hope’s time at Little Rock Job Corps taught them how to work in a professional setting and how to effectively be a team player.
Their advice for students?
“Don’t let people who are temporary deter you from your destination. Look for those who will positively impact your life for a lifetime.”
