After a long stint between foster homes, Jessica enrolled at the Muhlenberg Job Corps Center in 2015. While taking classes on center, she took advantage of Job Corps’ work-based learning program. Jessica got a job at a local nursing home and was able to put 80 percent of her salary into savings. With the support of the Job Corps staff, Jessica successfully completed the Certified Nursing Assistant and Pharmacy Technician programs. After graduating, she used her income from the nursing home to buy a car and rent an apartment. She says Job Corps gave her the education she needed to succeed and taught her professional work skills.
Jessica now lives in Madisonville, Ky., where she works for Baptist Health as a pharmacy technician and is planning to specialize and become the pharmacy’s narcotic or IV tech.
