Joycelyn Wroten arrived at Blue Ridge Job Corps in May of 2017, from Columbia, S.C. She had graduated from high school but wanted to further her education. She learned about Job Corps while researching programs online.
“I wanted to make it out of the situation that I was in and become a better version of myself,” Joycelyn said.
In less than a year, Joycelyn earned her Medical Assistant, HIPAA, CPR, and First Aid credentials. She enjoyed doing community service, often assisting with the packing and distributing of food at the Atkins Food Pantry and providing child care at a local church. Joycelyn completed a work-based learning internship at Meadowview Health Clinic, where she was able to practice the skills she learned during her training.
Joycelyn is now employed at South Carolina House Calls working as a medical assistant and scheduler. She plans to go on to college to earn a master’s degree in nursing.
