As she is a hands-on learner, learning remotely during the pandemic was one of Kyla Turner’s greatest challenges. She was ready to get back to campus as soon as possible and learn hands-on, surrounded by peers and instructors again.
Once she was back to campus, Kyla learned the ins and outs of her training program, from intramuscular injections to basic life support.
Kyla graduated on April 16, 2021, with Clinical Medical Assistant credentials. Both instructors and staff aided her in her job search.
“Job Corps helped me through every step of my job hunt, from filling out job applications to practicing interview questions, to even providing me transportation to my interviews.”
As a medical assistant at Family Health Center of Worcester, Kyla uses every skill she was taught in Job Corps and is gaining experience helping a variety of patients each day. Kyla dreams of becoming a phlebotomist and eventually owning her own clinic one day.
She is especially thankful for her Clinical Medical Assistant instructor Elizabeth Perrin.
“Every time I faced a problem, whether it be academic or personal, Ms. Perrin would talk me through it. She could tell when I was having a hard time and would allow me to take the time I needed to recover and return at my best.”
