Trapper Creek Job Corps graduate Levi White succeeded through the program, being named one of the Corpsmembers of the Year at the 2019 Corps Network National Conference in Washington, D.C. Although Levi already had his high school diploma and multiple jobs before enrolling in the program, Job Corps gave him the career training he needed to get better jobs.
At Trapper Creek, Levi enrolled in the Natural Resources training program, earning his Red Card as a wildland Firefighter Type 2. He was a member of the Trapper Creek Fire Crew and the Trapper Creek Trails Crew. Levi was recognized and sought out by both crews because of his hard work and professionalism.
On campus, Levi served as a student leader in a variety of ways: serving as a student guide by helping newly enrolled students navigate the program, giving campus tours, teaching conflict management skills to middle school students through the center’s Advanced Leadership program (SUMMIT), and even serving as a motivational speaker.
Levi’s dream is to earn degrees in sociology and criminal justice to address social injustices. To get closer to achieving this dream, he chose to do advanced training at Grafton Job Corps Center in Massachusetts, where he could be certified as a Human Services Worker.
“I believe that the heart of resilience lies in adaptability. A resilient person will adjust their approach and methodology to fit the situation,” Levi said. “Against all odds, one who is resilient will take the resources they have and make the most of them.”
