Mariah Whitlow came to Cleveland Job Corps after attending Shaw High School for 4 years. She failed one part of her OGT and could not graduate. She had planned to graduate with her sister, so the news devastated her.
“I attended the graduation ceremony to support my sister, but my soul was broken into a million pieces,” Mariah said.
Job Corps gave her another chance to achieve success. While at the Cleveland center, Mariah worked diligently to complete her training in Medical Office Support and Medical Assistant. She also earned her high school diploma.
After graduating, Mariah was offered a job at New Avenue Home Health Care making $9.50 per hour. She will be taking classes at Cuyahoga Community College this fall. Mariah plans to obtain her licensed practical nursing degree and then transfer to a 4-year college for her Registered Nursing license. “My goals have never changed,” she said.
