Mirella Solis

September 17, 2020

There are two things to know about Mirella Solis. First, even as a young girl, she had a passion for protecting and serving others. Second, she has always met doubt with confidence and turned her “can’ts” into “cans.”

Being in a wheelchair doesn’t define Mirella, but her journey to a career in law enforcement is one that has been built on a foundation of unwavering determination and perseverance. She has faced challenges along the way. Many have thought that she was incapable of the responsibilities and skills of a security personnel; but to that she responds, “Why not? It’s never stopped me before.” That can-do, unstoppable attitude is what made Mirella successful at Job Corps.

Job Corps worked with Mirella and gave her the opportunity to train in a field and work toward goals that she had always aspired to. She attended the San Diego Job Corps Center and graduated from the Security and Protective Services and Office Administration training areas in 2018. Mirella trained in both Security and Office Administration so she could combine skills and put them into practice as a 911 operator, another career path she is interested in pursuing.

“Job Corps helped train me for success because I was able to earn my guard card, necessary to have to get a job in security, and get the hands-on experience through internship opportunities. It prepared me to be in the work field for a job that I love.”

Not only did Mirella embrace her time at Job Corps professionally, but she also became a part of the Job Corps community and attended center activities, with her fondest memories being the community bonfires.

Mirella is currently a security specialist for a high-security company where her primary responsibilities include access control and ensuring the building, employees, and guests remain safe at all times.

“If you are ready to put in the work, if you’re ready to be there, and if you know what you want, then you will find success at Job Corps.”
