Nevada Daily was attending Lutheran East High School when he heard about the Cleveland Job Corps Center from a family member and decided to enroll. He not only wanted to get his high school diploma but train for a career too.
“If a student has the ambition and the focus necessary, they can’t go wrong,” Nevada said.
While at the Cleveland Job Corps Center, Nevada earned his high school diploma from Penn Foster. In addition, he obtained his Bricklaying, NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) Core Curriculum, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) 10-Hour Course, Scaffold Safety, Masonry Power Tool User, Green Building, Powder Actuated Tools (HILTI), and IMI (International Masonry Institute) Pre-Apprentice certificates.
Through a partnership that the Cleveland Job Corps Center has with Cuyahoga Community College (TRI-C), Nevada was able to enroll in the college’s Welding program. He received TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) Welding, TIG Overhead Welding (4F), and Stick Vertical Welding (3G) credentials.
Nevada is employed at Ace Brothers Equipment as an entry-level welder. He plans to gain steady growth in his skills and his income over the next year. He plans to buy a car and pursue more certifications in his craft.
“I really appreciate all the career opportunities and vital workplace skills that I was able to gain free of charge because of the Cleveland Job Corps program,” Nevada said.
