After being homeschooled for 12 years, PerAsia W. decided she needed to make a change that would lead her to a career.
“I wasn’t focused, and I needed a change,” she said. “I needed more structure, so I enrolled in Job Corps.”
PerAsia arrived at the Cleveland Job Corps Center in April 2017 and earned her high school diploma. She also completed Medical Office Support training and earned her Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, ServSafe, and First Aid credentials. She benefited from the structure of the program and support from her instructors.
After graduating in January 2018, PerAsia accepted a position at Metro Health Medical Center as an administrative assistant. She will attend Bryant and Stratton College in the fall to pursue a Licensed Practical Nurse associate degree. Her goal is to become a registered nurse once she completes the LPN program.
To potential Job Corps students, PerAsia said, “Never lose focus, always try to better yourself, remain humble, and learn to overcome barriers that interfere with your achieving your goals.”
