Rebecca Badasu moved from Ghana to the United States with her family as a young adult. She got a job making $7.25 per hour, which was barely enough to pay her bills, and she needed to find a way to become financially independent.
Taking her father’s advice, Rebecca left home to pursue her education at the Blue Ridge Job Corps Center in July 2014. She earned her high school equivalency credential while on campus and enrolled in the Certified Nurse Assistant training program. Afte
r 14 months, Rebecca had completed the program and earned her CNA credentials.
When Rebecca began her job search after graduation, Job Corps staff were there to help and prepare her for every step.
“They shadowed me through interviews, told me what to say and how to look for a job. I followed the steps they told me to. And if I had any trouble, I knew I could call; but I didn’t have any.”
Rebecca is now employed as a certified nursing assistant at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Fredericksburg, Va. She says that Job Corps was a steppingstone that got her to where she wanted to be.
“All the staff and teachers are there to help you succeed. I am so grateful for the teachers, staff, and everyone at Blue Ridge Job Corps for everything they did to get me where I am now.”
