When Taiesha Michael dropped out of high school and wasn’t able to find a job, she realized she needed career training and decided to enroll at Job Corps.
Taiesha arrived at the Blue Ridge Job Corps Center determined to succeed. She earned her high school diploma, completed both the Clinical Medical Assistant and Medical Office Support training areas, and gained Phlebotomy Technician and EKG Technician certifications. In addition, she also worked as a recreation aide in the center’s recreation department.
After graduating from Job Corps, she returned home to Suffolk, Virginia, and worked as a home health aide for a year. With this foundation in care, Taiesha later took her career path into child care and is now working as a preschool teacher at Suffolk Head Start.
“Focus on your education because that’s the start of it all,” she said. “It’s not easy to get ahead in the real world, but Job Corps can be a great stepping-stone.”
