Tyler James Mockler

September 30, 2019

For Tyler James Mockler, it took Job Corps and the encouragement from the people at Job Corps to go from a depressed high school drop-out to a dedicated El Dorado Hotshots wildland firefighter trainee.

Tyler always had a fascination with firefighting. Before Job Corps, he was a fire cadet; but he wanted to do more. In September of 2015, he was intrigued with the opportunities that Job Corps offered. In September of 2015, Tyler was working as a Job Corps Forestry student, working hard during the physical training and going on controlled burn runs. He received his high school equivalency credential from Job Corps and graduated in May of 2017.

“Every time I felt like I wanted to quit, I was encouraged by people at Job Corps to push through and take it one day at a time,” Tyler said. “I would have never made it if I didn’t go to Job Corps.”

Tyler is thankful for his time at Job Corps, and the challenges that he overcame to become a stronger and smarter individual. Now, he is training as an elite firefighter with the El Dorado Hotshots in California, and feels grateful for the people at Job Corps who pushed him to strive for success throughout the whole process.
